Mothers' Voices presents programs in homes, schools and community centers. We tool our programs to your specific needs. Our programs are as follows:
Mom's Breakfast: Funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. Two hour workshop usually presented in private homes to moms of adolescent children who share similar concerns. Cohesive group in a relaxed & social setting, works to establish networks of moms who educate & advocate about safe sexual health.
Finding Our Voices: Parents educating Parents About HIV Prevention is a two-day training program that certifies parents to facilitate "Raising Healthy Kids" workshops about parent-child communication, sexual health and HIV/AIDS prevention.
Raising Healthy Kids: Families Talk About Sexual Health i
s a one and one-half hour workshop. The workshop, usually the first part of an ongoing series, is designed to give parents practical skills to use at home.
Communities of Faith Outreach Campaign
assists spiritual leaders in raising awareness and facilitating discussion about HIV and AIDS in places of worship. Mothers' Voices serves as the conduit to the faith community, training two or three people in churches and synagogues to deliver the HIV prevention/healthy sexuality message to their congregations.
HIV & Sexuality 101
is a one hour workshop covering the basics of HIV/STD and disease prevention as well as the basics of healthy sexuality including abstinence and safer sex practices.
Heart 2 Heart Seminar -
two-hour seminar presented by Mothers’ Voices’ staff targeting both parents and their children (infected and affected) together utilizing professionally-developed modules to facilitate enhanced communication as it relates to sexual health decisions. Attendees learn how to keep the lines of communication open by working on their listening skills while learning about the real risks of HIV/AIDS/STDs. At the workshop’s conclusion, parents and children will sign a pledge to continue to keep the lines of communication open regarding sexuality and prevention of HIV and STDs.
Intervention Program Modules -
A series of four basic modules will be implemented in selected support groups of each of the program partners’ support groups of infected and affected clients. The four modules consist of: 1) HIV Basics on Transmission and Prevention, including Secondary Transmission; 2) Clarifying Values Relating to Sexuality, Drug Use, Abuse and HIV Prevention ; 3) Developmental Stages of Children and Communication; and, 4) Parent-Child Communication Skills.
Continuing Education -
Through its accreditation from the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling, Mothers’ Voices will host three separate half-day trainings for staff members (peer educators, social workers and clinical staff) of the three program partners identified in this funding initiative. The continuing education program will provide partners with a better sense of the program activities and will augment their knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STD issues relative to the target population.
